Tech Tip: CommVault Simpana 7.0 Upgrade

CommVault has released version 7.0 of their backup software, now branded Simpana. The ability for Galaxy 6.1 users to update to version 7.0 has been out since October 15, 2007. Customers desiring to upgrade can go to the Maintenance Advantage website and “Request an Upgrade Kit”.

One item on the Maintenance Advantage website that deserves some additional attention is the Upgrade Test. The Upgrade Test can be run via the Internet, or if offline testing is required, it is also in the Upgrade Kit. For the online test, once you submit your CommCell name and upload the compressed CommServe database backup file, the system will evaluate and email you your results. The results will let you know several parameters: if any clients are too outdated to upgrade, if there are duplicate names for clients, if the database is consistent, and possible problems you might run into during the upgrade.
